Welcome to the off season! I suppose the big change of temperatures in Ontario this week signalled the end of summer and the change from running shorts to running hats and gloves! For me, it sadly signals the end of my 2008 season. I say ‘sadly’ because I am currently feeling so fit, fast and healthy at last. My summer-long chest infection is gone and my heel feels so good. But I have to celebrate because I did win my last race of the season – Longhorn Austin 70.3!! It was a fantastic race venue and the people were amazing. I would totally recommend that event in 2009!
If my goal in 2008 after an injury-ridden 2007, was to race without anti-inflammatories, then my goal in 2009 is to continue to improve. At the moment, I would say that my heel feels the best it has felt in 2 years – which is bitter sweet since I needed that back in August. But unlike the last two years, my off season can involve strengthening and fun running and revitalization instead of daily physical therapy! Of course, I am still training. If anyone needs a training rabbit, I am their girl. I jump into anyone’s workout and hold on for dear life. it is so fun for me because it is structured but unstructured since it isn’t my own structure with a race in the horizon!
We have announced our Subaru Success Camps for 2009 for Subaru Ironman Muskoka 70.3 and Subaru Ironman Canada. We also plan to announce a small camp in Clermont Florida in February and maybe another one in March. And we are mulling around the idea of having an Iron distance preparation camp in Muskoka which can act as long distance preparation for anyone aiming for Ironman Lake Placid or Subaru Ironman Canada but living in Ontario (as opposed to our Penticton camp). Stay tuned!
In the meantime, we are trying to figure out where to go for a holiday – the plan was the Atlantic coast – near Providence – but it might be too cold. So we might make the trek down to Hilton Head. Of course, it will be the whole family – Dave, Madison and Brunswick – all loaded up in the Outback and pointed south!
My first official race in 2009 will be the Pucon 70.3 in Chile, South America but another might pop up before that! Here is to a great healthy and happy 2009!
Stay safe and train happy...
