It is July – the sun is shining, we are running in shorts, cycling with short sleeves and swimming in lakes. Ah, life is good in Ontario in July. It is our just reward for battling through the bucketfuls of snow that fell in January and February and March! But those days are long forgotten – the face masks and triple layers are gone – and we are in the middle of triathlon season planning our next training session and preparing for that key race in the next few weeks.
It has been a fantastic past few months with my first race at the Florida 70.3 in May, then the Subaru Muskoka Chase in June and, most recently, Amica Providence 70.3. Each week, I am getting faster and fitter which is a big change for me from years past. Years ago, I was just always fit – I was always about a 2-week sharpen away from having a good race. So it is kind of fun to watch my kilometre running intervals get faster each session and it is fun to watch the swim clock and see myself getting closer to a little breakthrough and it is fun to watch my SRM reading numbers in the 300’s. Last weekend’s race in Providence finally felt like a race instead of a ‘cobweb clearing session’. More about that race in the blog section of this flashy new site!!
July sees me in my final preparation for Subaru Ironman Canada and that includes our annual Subaru Success Camp from July 25 to 27th in Penticton. We have since added to our camp menu, thanks to the Subaru Muskoka 70.3 event being held on September 14th, 2008. In June, we hosted our first Subaru Muskoka 70.3 Success Camp and we will follow that up with another in August. Yes, we have been busy here but when you are doing what you love and you have great support, it is not work at all. That said, I am reading “The 4-hour Work Week” to try to figure out how to find more free time. The key word is ‘outsourcing’ but so far, I haven’t been able to outsource my 25-30 hour training weeks. Madison and Brunswick can cover the swimming and running but I haven’t found a cyclist!
Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful, sunny, summery July – train safe, be fit, and stay healthy!
Stay safe and train happy...
